An Airline Sacrifices Goats to Appease Hindu Sky God

Dear Friends:

I want to share this story with all of you... Some Western people have criticized the Nepalese airline's officials because of the goats' sacrifice. However they forget that in this side of the world we attend to masses and other kind of blessing events to be protected by the Highest Energy of the Universe...

Someone at Yahoo! Answers asked if "Is this proof that Akash Bhairab, Hindu sky deity, is the one true God?"

I replied that: "There's only one Supreme Source of Energy in the Universe... People have the right to call Him/Her/It by any name because no one in the earthly dimension we live knows if this Energy (some consider it 'God') has a name... However, the purest and most sincere intention to reach the Supreme Source of Energy is enough to be blessed. "

I'm including a link to the Wikipedia, it will help all of us to understand the Nepalese ritual.

Airline sacrifices goats to appease sky god

According to Reuters news agency, officials at Nepal's state-run airline recently sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god, following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft.

Nepal Airlines, which has two Boeing aircraft, has had to suspend some services in recent weeks due the problem.

The goats were sacrificed in front of the troublesome aircraft Sunday at Nepal's only international airport in Kathmandu in accordance with Hindu traditions, an official said.

"The snag in the plane has now been fixed and the aircraft has resumed its flights," said Raju K.C., a senior airline official, without explaining what the problem had been.

Local media last week blamed the company's woes on an electrical fault. The carrier runs international flights to five cities in Asia.

It is common in Nepal to sacrifice animals like goats and buffaloes to appease different Hindu deities. <>

Indian Film On Reincarnation Probes Karma Concept

A new Indian film examines the ancient philosophical concept of karma through the lives of eight characters who remember the sins of their past life and reconcile to the suffering in their new birth.

One of the characters in the film, "Meridian," is a pauper who remembers his past life as a king and its opulence but reconciles to the poverty and squalor of his present as punishment for sins committed in the previous birth.

"The film presents characters who cannot escape the cycle of karma," Irrfan Khan, a leading Bollywood actor known for playing unconventional roles, told Reuters.

"They understand within the course of the film that a person is bound to face the consequence of the action committed by him," said Khan, who acts as the king-turned-pauper.

As a philosophical concept that is central to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, karma is action, seen as bringing up on oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation.

"Meridian," which uses both English and Hindi language, seeks to portray the mental trauma of people who remember who they were and what they did in their previous birth, said Khan.

Although the concept of reincarnation has been scientifically debated in India, it finds many takers, especially in the countryside.

The theme of reincarnation has been the grist for many successful Bollywood films where the hero has often returned to avenge the injustices of his past life.

"Meridian" is being directed by London-based filmmaker Venod Mitra and most of the filming has been completed. Source: Reuters News Agency
